Civil societies and Non-Governmental Organizations partnering with government will need to maintain a high level of transparency.

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made this statement while referring to the issue concerning the Lagilagi Housing Project.

Sayed-Khaiyum says Civil Societies and NGO’s should understand that it’s the tax payer’s money used to assist certain organizations in carrying out projects.

“We want to partner with civil society, we want to partner with NGO’s but we have to make sure that there is proper accountability and transparency because as the Minister highlighted it is tax payers funds that are being used and they are used for a noble cause.”

He says government will continue to carry out these partnerships and transparency is vital.
