Traffic congestion in Suva

January 13, 2019 1:55 pm

Land Transport Authority chief executive, Samuel Simpson says it is important to free up the streets of Suva so that the commercial activities can be carried out smoothly.

Simpson who took up office less than two weeks ago says he has noticed there is a lot of traffic congestion in the City.

He believes the public should be able to do their shopping without having to wait for 20 to 30 minutes just to get through a junction.

Simpson says they will work closely with the Fiji Roads Authority on the issue.

“One of the things that I have noticed in the short term that I have been in Suva is the amount of traffic congestion there is in the center of the town. We have a junction right outside the Westpac Bank that has got a yellow marking and it is routinely ignored by everybody.”

The LTA will also strengthen its information campaign around the country to improve road safety.
