Traders have been found to be complying with the price control orders of goods sold in supermarkets and community shops.

Consumer Council Chief Executive, Seema Shandil says this was highlighted in their latest goods survey which is conducted every two months.

Shandil says despite most traders following regulations – concerns continue to be raised by consumers in the rural and maritime areas.

“So the most recent one was done last week and what we have seen is all the traders are complying with the price control orders, however, we have some complaints from the outer areas that is out of city or town areas. Whereby we have received complaints in regards to the store or shop owners are selling goods at a higher price than the price they should be selling at.”

Shandil adds their staff have visited these traders and they’ve been issued with warning letters.

The CEO says they’ve also notified the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission who will follow up to see that these traders comply with price control orders.

Fijians are urged to contact the Council on toll free number 155 if they notice traders illegally increasing prices.
