A tourist died after a boating mishap in the Mamanuca Islands on Thursday afternoon.

It’s understood he died from injuries sustained after the fibreglass boat he was in collided with another boat.

Permanent Secretary for Tourism Elizabeth Powell says the tragic incident which has claimed the life of a guest is an unfortunate one.

Powell says the tourism industry acted quickly and swiftly to help the family.

She says Police are still investigating.

The tourist was a guest at Mana Island Resort and had gone on a fishing trip when the tragedy occurred.

The victims wife and children left the country yesterday.
