Fijians will soon be able to report any case of abuse on the environment through a hotline.

This was announced by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while opening the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards Dinner last night in Nadi.

Bainimarama says the recent cases of apparent breaches of the environment have prompted him to launch an environmental hotline.

“I want to repeat that such breaches should be met with the full force of the law. No exceptions. If you break our laws, you will be punished. We’ll soon be rolling out an environmental hotline, where Fijians can report abuses of our environment, wherever they see it happening”.

The Prime Minister also warned any developer, from anywhere in the world, that if they intend to destroy or forever degrade the environment, they are not welcomed in Fiji.

Bainimarama says they won’t take kindly to anyone who violates the laws.

According to Bainimarama, the Tourism Sector is also well on pace to hit the $2.2 billion goals in 2021.

He says currently Fijian tourism is estimated at a $1.9 billion industry.
