Tourism earnings to surpass $1.5 billion for 2015

Fiji will set a new record in terms of visitor arrivals in 2015.

Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says visitor arrivals are up by 8.4 percent from January to August this year and the earnings from Tourism is expected surpass 1.5 billion dollars this year.

Sayed-Khaiyum says tourism growth will continue.

‘’Last year, Fiji recorded 692, 630 visitor arrival the most ever and we will expect this trend of visitor arrival to continue’’.

With remittances providing Fiji’s second largest source of foreign exchange, Sayed-Khaiyum says so far this year remittances now stand at 284 million dollars which is 35 percent higher for the same period in 2014.

Sayed-Khaiyum says at this rate remittances is expected to set another new record of around to 450 million dollars in 2015.

In his reply to the President’s address to the opening of Parliament, Sayed-Khaiyum said growth in the tourism sector shows the new reforms implemented by government which paves the way forward for the country.
