Downed power lines have caused blackout in most parts of Vanua Levu.

Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea says they have been receiving periodic reports from Bua and Savusavu of the damage sustained in the villages.

He says in most places, the electricity posts are down.

This has caused a total blackout in Nabouwalu, Seaqaqa, Savusavu and Labasa.

At the moment, only some buildings and business houses are using generators.

There is no word yet as to when electricity will be restored.
