The ‘Total Group’ has invested over $2 million to turn seven of their fuel stations into solar powered outlets.

Managing Director for Total Fiji Limited Kazi Rahman says as a key energy stakeholder in the energy sector they are opting for safer and cleaner energy sources.

Rahman says the Fijian Government through various forums has been raising awareness on climate change and they support the government’s aim of making our country a cleaner place.

The first seven of which is being opened today. Located in Suva, Lautoka and Sigatoka, the solar installation at these seven stations is expected to reduce carbon emission by over 130 tonnes every year for the next 25 years. That is equivalent to driving 900,000 kilometers less.

As part of this project the fuel station at Laucala Bay opened yesterday, is now fully operated by solar energy.

The Fijian Government had earlier announced as part of the no carbon strategy 2018-2050 to reach zero percent net carbon emission by 2050 across all sectors.
