Tool kit to reduce violence against women and girls

August 5, 2015 5:20 am

The UN Women has launched a new tool kit that is aimed at reducing violence against women and girls in Fiji and the Pacific.

UN Women Deputy Representative Nicolas Burniat says the tool kit is based about an imaginary character called Moana, who identifies issues of violence in her community.

‘’We follow her throughout this booklet, trying to understand what is violence and what are the issues with gender equality, how do you develop project proposals, how do you take it to funders in trying to fund raise for it and how do you implement it’’.

Violence against women and girls is a serious and complex issue and Burniat says there’s a critical need to develop interventions to prevent violence.

Developed as part of the Ending Violence against Women Facility Fund, the toolkit is the first of its kind in the Pacific.
