Consumers now have access to a toll free number to lodge complaints – free of charge.

Sayed-Khaiyum says consumers must use this service responsibly.

“It does bring about a number of discipline within the consumer framework that has been missing so far. We’ve continuously over the past few years tried to bring about that level of discipline in terms of the transactions that take place between the vendor and purchaser.”

The toll-free number if 155 and can be used across all 3 telecom networks.

Consumer Council Chief Executive Premila Kumar says this will be a relief for people outside of urban areas who find difficulty in raising issues at the Council office.
