Prime Minister and COP23 President Voreqe Bainimarama has reminded delegates at the Presidencies Talanoa Dialogue wrap-up in Bonn, Germany that time is of the essence.
The PM while urging nations to do more to raise the ambition of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for reducing greenhouse gas and emissions has highlighted the importance of ensuring all member countries continue to iron out their commitments in the lead up to COP24 at the end of the year.
“Together with the IPCC special report on 1.5 degrees will form the primary basis of the report of the preparatory report. It will contain key messages on the questions of where we are, where do we want to go and how do we get there.”
The PM informed delegates at the high level meeting that from now until the COP24 meeting, there was a need to ramp up additions to the on-line portal established to ensure there were contributions from all stakeholders.
The PM said he was encouraged to see delegates actively engage in the processes, embracing the Talanoa Spirit.
He added the deliberations from now on would inform the various government ministers responsible on what their messages would be leading to a finessed conversation in the fight for climate action.
The COP23 President stressed that ambition was critical to ensuring collective action in the global fight on climate change.
