Strong allegations were made by the Opposition that the FCCC Chief Executive cost them the 2018 General Elections.

Opposition MP Pio Tikoduadua claims that FCCC CEO Joel Abraham was holding pocket meetings and was also seen at some of the FijiFirst party meetings.

Tikoduadua says this concludes that he was showing support for the party while he was supposed to be apolitical.

The CEO was holding pocket meetings with people and telling them that people and provisional candidates were lying about reducing the costs of living. The CEO was obviously referring to NFP as it was the only party that announced that it will reduce the cost of living by removing VAT from 15 basic food items.”

These controversial comments were rubbished by Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate.

Usamate says the FCCC Act empowers the CEO to analyze any document that affects the interest of people.

“They were doing their role. Every now and then when something happens and you always hear from the other side they are always looking for a boogeyman. They have this siege mentality that everybody is out to get them. Nobody is out to get you. You lost the election fair and square that is it accept it move on life goes on.”

This was highlighted in the motions for debate on the ‘Consolidated Report on Fiji Commerce Commission 2014 and 2015 Annual Reports which was agreed to.
