October 22, 2015 5:13 am

About three Tropical Cyclones are expected to pass through the Fiji waters this cyclone season.

Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport Francis Kean, says, it’s highly likely that three tropical cyclones will pass close to, or over the North and East of Fiji – meaning we will feel the effects.

“It is critical that communities across Fiji act responsibly and pays close attention to all weather forecast, warnings and advisories issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service and government.”

Kean says the entire region is facing a high risk situation with as many as fourteen tropical cyclones predicted.

Director Meteorological Services, Ravind Kumar, says a strategic plan for this cyclone season has been submitted to cabinet for approval – but people need to be vigilant and prepare accordingly.

He adds the one up-side to this is relief from the dry spell.

The Fiji Meteorological Service confirms the risks are higher this time around and at least one cyclone is likely to be a Category three.
