Three tobacco free villages in Fiji

Three villages in Fiji are declared Tobacco Free.

The three villages are Tavualevu village in Tavua, Nabila Village in Nadroga and the recent one is Cuvu Village which was declared Tobacco Free two weeks ago.

Acting Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Health and Medical Services Dr Meciusela Tuicakau is urging other villagers to come forward and be part of the initiative.

“Our sub divisional officers, they go out to the village and do the training because they need to abide to some activities that they need to educate the chiefs, the community, the village elders, the youths and even the school children that the village will not allow any sale of tobacco or tobacco products.”

Residents in Tobacco Free villages are also prohibited in smoking within the village boundaries.
