Three sentenced for robbing and raping a tourist

August 9, 2018 12:59 am

A 24-year-old Pita Natekuru convicted of one count of aggravated robbery and one count of rape has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Lautoka High court.

His other accomplices’ 34-year-old Laitia Nalawa and 35-year-old Jale Fatiaki were convicted of one count each of aggravated robbery and have been sentenced to nine and a half years and nine years imprisonment respectively.

The court heard that Natekuru, Nalawa and Fatiaki robbed a tourist couple in July at a villa in Sigatoka.

The victim were watching television when the three forced open a window and entered the villa in a horrific night time invasion.

They stole assorted items worth more than $6000.

High court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge says Natekuru deviated from the initial plan to exploit the situation to satisfy his lustful demand.

Natekuru who is married with a one-year-old child will be eligible for parole after serving 12 years in prison.

Nalawa will be eligible for parole after serving eight years while Fatiaki will have to serve seven years in prison.
