Three escape custodial sentence

Three people convicted of committing burglary and theft at the University of the South pacific earlier this year have been handed suspended sentence by the Suva High court.

Pita Tukele, Nemani Gudru and Tomasi Tuicakau were charged with one count each of aggravated burglary, theft and attempted aggravated burglary.

The court heard that the three entered the USP Fitness center and stole items valued over $1400.

20-year-old, Tukele and 19-year-old, Gudru are USP students while 19-year-old, Tuicakau is unemployed.

High court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza said that the three have sought forgiveness and the stolen items were recovered.

The three have also agreed to compensate USP for the damages caused to the property.

The three have been sentenced to 2 years and suspended for five years.

They have been ordered to pay $220 as compensation for the damages.
