Three drown within 48 hours

Three people have drowned in the last 48 hours.

The first incident occurred on Monday when a 20ft fibre glass boat carrying three people capsized in the Beqa, Yanuca passage due to rough seas.

One of the occupants, a 22 year old – was rescued by a Chinese fishing boat.

However the two other men aged 42 and 55 both of Naitata, Navua could not be found.

A community search was conducted yesterday morning and both of the victims’ bodies were discovered.

In another incident a 13 year old student was found floating in an inland bay area in Lami where he was fishing yesterday.

The post mortem examinations for all three will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death as investigations continue.

The drowning toll stands at 30 compared to 42 for the same period last year.
