Brucellosis and Tuberculosis remain as one of the biggest challenges for the Fiji Meat Industry.
Permanent Secretary for Agriculture David Kolitagane says the diseases have existed in Fiji over the past several years and there is a vital need to control the issue.
Kolitagane says they have increased their budget from $1million to $3million to control the devastating disease.
“From the past two years, we have increased our budget from $1m that we provided to brucellosis and the Btech program where we test and then remove animals from the farms.”
Kolitagane says the brucellosis and Btech program is now Fiji wide.
He adds before they used to focus on the central division but now they are testing animals in the Western and the Northern Division.
