There is a lot of potential for tilapia farming in Fiji.

This was highlighted by the Director for CATD, Naipote Katonitabua while speaking to recipients of the 2018/2019 Food Security Program assistance.

The 23 recipients are currently undergoing a one week training in Nadave, Tailevu at the Centre for Applied Technology Development.

Katonitabua says there was an article published by the Pacific Community which shows that there are 100 tonnes of farmed fish or tilapia produced annually.

He adds that the one week training aims to help the recipients with the knowledge needed for this form of farming.

The participants will be going through various modules during their training and will even have practical sessions.

The training ends on Saturday.
