Therapist cops 8 years and 11 months for rape

A father of seven convicted of one count of rape has been sentenced to 8 years and 11 months imprisonment.

The 57-year-old committed the offence on 8th December 2015 in Nadi.

The court heard that the Therapist went to the complainant’s house to massage her husband’s paining leg and promised to buy him some herbal medicine from Rakiraki.

He brought the medicine and visited the complainant’s home and wanted to talk to her about a dream.

The court heard that when the complainant’s husband fell off to sleep under a tree, he followed her to her room and raped her.

Lautoka High court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge said rape is prevalent and on the rise in Fiji and offenders must be punished to denounce and to send a clear message to the community that no such action will be tolerated by the court.

Justice Aluthge also said that offenders must be severely punished to ensure safety and security of all women.

The man will be eligible for parole after serving 6 years.
