Tertiary students appear for alleged stabbing

Two tertiary students have appeared before the Suva magistrate court yesterday after allegedly stabbing a taxi driver early Sunday morning.

Samuela Alasia and Vishal Chand have been jointly charged with a count of aggravated robbery.

Allegedly one of the students said that the taxi picked up two other of his colleagues at Grantham Road and asked the driver to take them to Suva Point.

At Beach Road, in Suva Point, the driver was stabbed on the head and both wrists by one of the students’ who was sitting behind him while he was also assaulted by another student sitting next to him.

In the midst of all this, the driver drove his taxi to the security booth at the USP Lower Campus at Statham Street where he was helped by the security officer.

The taxi driver has been discharged from the CWM Hospital.

The two suspects have been remanded in prison and will appear in court on the 14th of November.
