The Water Authority has identified temporary water sources which can be used to assist in the coming months should the current dry weather spell continue.

Board Director, Kamal Goundar, has confirmed that out of the forty-five water sources nationwide, nineteen have reached critical level.

The Authority says as part of their contingency plan, teams have been constructing coffer dams to store water, which can be pumped into the treatment plants.

“Those sources that has reached critical stage we are looking at options of other sources in the nearby area so we putting up temporary projects to piping for these temporary water sources.”

Water tanks have also been placed at strategic locations in areas affected by the dry weather.

Meanwhile, Goundar is urging more than three hundred thousand metered customers to store sufficient water for drinking and cooking for at least two days.

He says this is due to the aged infrastructure, and there are planned and unplanned water shutdowns.
