Rations are now being distributed to Cyclone affected families in the Northern Division.
Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea says with the arrival of more relief supplies in Labasa, these will be distributed to those areas which were not reached before.
“What we are trying to do temporarily in the interim is give them tarpaulins – so that they can go and start their lives again while waiting for the rehabilitation process in terms of rebuilding their homes as well as the rations which is very needy – we really need more rations as you know some of the root crops according to the surveys have suffered a lot during the cyclone which is not usable now.”
Two French Military Aircraft flew into Labasa with packs if tauplins, tool kits and food ration.
There are currently 125 active evacuation centers in the Northern division with 3,400 evacuees.
