Telecom Fiji Limited has cleared the air on whether they owe the Ministry of Education more than two hundred thousand dollars for undelivered goods, specifically electronic cards under the free bus fare initiative.

Telecom General Manager Corporate Services Samuela Vadei says the organization is currently going through their files to ascertain the details of the contract between them and the Education Ministry.

Last week, the Public Accounts Committee hearings on Auditor General Accounts from 2010 to 2013 revealed that Telecom was paid $230,000 for telecom cards which were undelivered.

Education Ministry’s Director Finance Makarita Fuata told the parliamentary standing committee that repeated correspondence to Telecom Fiji had led to no results and that the case is being referred to the Solicitor General’s office for legal action.

PAC Chair Dr. Biman Prasad advised the Education Ministry to not only consider referring the case to the SG but to also file a police report and highlight the discrepancy with FICAC.
