TD07F to further intensify and move closer to Fiji

Tropical disturbance 07F that is currently to the far northwest of Fiji near Vanuatu is expected to move towards Fiji and may gradually intensify into a depression and possibly affect the group from tomorrow.

Fiji Meteorological Services Director Ravin Kumar says in the next 48 to 72 hours it may further intensify into a category one cyclone and expected to be close to Fiji.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression 08F lies slow moving to the south of Fiji and is moving south away from the group.

A dominant moist north-westerly wind flow prevails over Fiji with the trough of low pressure just to the west of the country.

A flood alert remain in force for the low lying areas, small streams and areas downstream of Dreketilailai station to Qawa river and low lying areas and small streams for Vanua Levu, northern and western parts of Viti Levu.

The weather office says the path the weather system will take is uncertain at the stage and more details on the development on the depression will be released today.
