TD now upgraded to TC Winston

Tropical Depression 09F has now been upgraded to a Tropical Cyclone, which is been given the name, Winston.

Nadi Meteorology director Ravin Kumar says TC Winston still does not pose any direct threat to Fiji, however rain and strong winds associated with the system will affect the country.

A heavy rain warning remains in force for Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Kadavu and the nearby smaller islands, the Yasawa and Mamanuca group.

For the western division, a flood warning is in force for low-lying pocket areas especially along Rakiraki river including the town.

Roads in Rakiraki town are worst affected at present while most waterways are rising.

The National Emergency Operation Center is warning drivers and pedestrians to take extreme caution when travelling and to refrain from crossing flooded waters.

In Tavua Yaladro, Lakalak, Nabuna village, Dramasi and Nadelei roads are closed to all traffic.

In Rakiraki Korotale, Waimari, FSC and the Rakiraki Access Roads are closed.

Babriban, Vunisamaloa, Cemetary and Toge Roads in Ba are closed while Chunilal and Arolevu Roads in Nadi are closed to all traffic.

All roads in the central and Northern Division remain open.

The public is urged to closely monitor the current situation and take relevant precautions.

Parents are guardians are warned to monitor the movement of their children.

Meanwhile residents living in parts of Tavua and Rakiraki are currently facing water disruptions.

The Water Authority of Fiji says supply is disrupted due to flooding.
