Tropical Depression TD09F was about 720km west-southwest of Rotuma or about 710km west north-west of Nadi at 9am today.
Nadi Meteorological Services Director Ravin Kumar says the depression will intensify and bring more rain to Fiji.
“It is moving south wards at 12 knots and is expected to continue on this track. It has a high probability to turn into a tropical cyclone category 1 system in the next 6 to 12 hours. At this point the Tropical Depression does not pose any direct threat to Fiji however the associated weather and rain affects the country.”
A heavy rain warning is now in force for Western and Northern Viti Levu, Northern Vanua Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group.
A flood warning also remains in force for all low lying areas along the Rakiraki River including the town.
Meanwhile flood waters in Rakiraki have receded and the town is now open to the public.
