TCF Council receives government grant

The Textiles, Clothing and Footwear Council has received a grant of $100,000 from the Ministry of Industry, and Trade.

Permanent Secretary Shaheen Ali handed over the cheque to TCF Council President Kaushik Kumar.

Ali says the government will continue supporting the industry and over the years has provided $850,000 for marketing purposes.

The industry employs 7000 people in over forty factories and 90 percent of them are women.

“Our grant to the TCF industry has made an impact according to the reports they provide. They have established markets worth about $5 million, they have invested an extra $5 million into the industry and about 450 new employments have been created because of the marketing grant and the new markets that have been explored.”

Australia and New Zealand remain Fiji’s main export market however Ali says they are also looking at the United States.
