TC Winston moves closer to Fiji

Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston was located about 360 kilometers south-southwest of Ono-i-Lau or about 505 kilometers south-southwest of Kadavu at 9am.

The Cyclone is moving east-northeast at about 24km/hr which will bring the system closer to the Fiji Group in the coming days.

Nadi Meteorological Director Ravin Kumar says a storm wind warning remains in force for Ono-I-Lau and Vatoa.

“The gale force winds especially for those island of Fulaga, Ogea, Nabuka, Kambara, Komo and Moce winds strengthening to damaging gale force winds – we expect from this afternoon and occasional rain heavy at times and squally thunderstorms to be bringing heavy rain over the island. Damaging heavy swells with flooding of low lying areas is also likely.”

The cyclone is expected to be located about 135 kilometers South of Ono-i-Lau or about 450 kilometers southeast of Kadavu by 9 o’clock.

Twelve hours later, TC Winston will be about 170 kilometers east of Ono-i-Lau or about 515 kilometers east-southeast of Kadavu at 9am tomorrow.
