TC Gita now in Fiji waters

Tropical Cyclone Gita is now in the Fiji waters, as a hurricane warning remains in force for Ono-i-Lau and Vatoa.

The Fiji Meteorological Services says the category four cyclone entered the Fiji waters this morning after having lashed Tonga last night.

TC Gita was located 80 kilometers Southeast of Ono-i-Lau and 450km East Southeast of Kadavu at 11am.

On this track, the cyclone which is moving west at 25km/hr is expected to be located about 170km West Soutwest of Ono-i-Lau of about 280km Southeast of Kadavu at 11pm today.

Based on this track, this will place the cyclone about 240km South of Kadavu or about 360km West of Ono-i-Lau at 11am tomorrow.

A storm waring remains in force for the rest for the Southern Lau group, while a gale warning is in force for Matuku, Totoya, Moala, Lakeba, Nayau, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

A strong wind warning remains in force for the rest of Fiji.
