Tropical Cyclone Gita has intensified overnight into a Category five system and continues to track westward in Fiji waters.
Fiji Meteorological Service Director – Ravind Kumar says TC Gita has nonetheless slowed down despite intensifying and is estimated to be moving at about 17km/hr.
Areas to watch out for Gale warnings remain in force for Matuku, Totoya and Moala, Kadavu and smaller islands and has being cancelled for the rest of Southern Lau.
A strong wind warning remains in force for rest of Fiji.
Kumar says there will be occasional rain, heavy at times and becoming frequent for those islands in the South.
He further advises that the public continue to monitor the weather updates regularly.
