Wailotua No.1 village is currently underwater after the Wainibuka River bursts its bank this morning.
Turaga ni Koro Vilikesa Tubuitamana says villagers first moved to the community hall for shelter, however, the water level continued to rise prompting them to move further to higher ground.
Tubuitamana adds over 20 houses are currently underwater including the church as the water level is rapidly rising due to the heavy rain experienced from last night.
“Wind speed is slowly dying out but the rain continue. All our farms have been destroyed and the majority of our belongings have been washed away by the flooded water. We are glad that all villagers are safe and I have been reminding the villagers to stop wading into flooded waters.”
Drana, Ra villager Solo Waqatabu says heavy rain continue to batter the area.
He says over four crossings in the district of Naroko are underwater since this morning.
Waqatabu adds their farms have been destroyed and debris is scattered all over.
