The Fiji Taxi Association is urging regular taxi service users to step forward and complain if they find that their fares from a particular destination have increased.

It is alleged that some taxi drivers tamper their taxi meters to increase the fares.

Fiji Taxi Association General Secretary Rishi Ram says it is unjustifiable if taxi drivers think they can get away with their acts.

“It’s an offense for any taxi driver or proprietor to tamper with the meter, because once the meter is tested it is sealed by LTA and we must abide by it.”

Ram says this issue will be discussed in the Associations Annual General Meeting which will be held in Nadi on 24th of next month.
