Taxi driver seriously injured in alleged robbery

A 53-year-old taxi driver from Narere, Nasinu is admitted at the CWM Hospital in Suva after he was allegedly assaulted.

The family of the man contacted FBC News claiming the victim was allegedly assaulted and threatened by two men, he had picked up from Stewart Street in Suva yesterday morning.

Victim’s wife Anjula Devi says her husband told her that the passengers asked to be dropped off in Lami and on their way, they allegedly beat him and tied him up with a rope.

Devi says she received a call from the police in the afternoon and could not believe her eyes when she saw her husband’s condition.

“When I went to see him, his face was swollen and he was really crying, he can’t talk, he never move his body, he was in wheelchair, when I saw him and I fell down, I really can’t see my husband like that”

Devi says her husband claims he was thrown out of a taxi in Makoi and was unconscious for about thirty minutes before he was discovered by a woman and rushed to the Bhanabhai Health Center.

The man was later transferred to CWM where he is recovering.

The taxi with registration LT 1321 is still missing.

FBC News has sought comments from the Police on the incident.
