The report on the Land Transport Industry has recommended that taxi operators that do not have a base at Denarau must be given full access to drop off passengers at any point within Denarau Island in Nadi.

The report says numerous complaints have been raised by individuals regarding taxi access into Denarau.

Denarau Island is an important tourist destination, and the report says we must ensure that the product value is not diminished and tourists are not in any way disadvantaged.

The report says that tourists who hired taxis from outside the island have been forced to get off at the security gates as access was not granted to such taxis.

The report highlighted that a number of taxis based on Denarau Island operate as hire vehicles and charge unreasonable fares from Denarau to Nadi Town.

The report has recommended that taxis from outside should be allowed to pick passengers that specifically request a taxi from outside the island.

The report recommends same arrangements should be extended to other hotel properties.
