Tax Information System to go live

The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service’ Tax Information System will go live from the third quarter of this year.

Speaking to FBC News Chief Executive, Visvanath Das has revealed that the service is in the final stages of backend development.

Das says this system will enhance service delivery as it will serve as a portal that will contain the data of all taxpayers.

“The employer is still responsible to submit electronic monthly schedules of the salary and wages that they are paying to the employers. That is where the tax office is sort of hub of the information that is required for the many government initiatives.”

Das says the portal also enables taxpayers to access data and make payments online, no longer needing to make visits to the tax office.

“If you need a TIN letter you log onto the portal and apply online and it will be sent to your portal. For businesses – you require tax compliance certification; so you go to your portal, apply for it, the system will process it and immediately conduct a crosscheck and if requirements are met – you receive your tax compliance certification.”

The taxman says this portal is also aimed at benefiting a number of government initiatives.

The Revenue and Customs engaged the services of British-based Invenio Business Solutions in 2017 to implement the project.
$48 million has been invested into the system.
