Taveuni residents continue to face water problems

July 28, 2016 5:43 pm

The higher areas in the South and North of Taveuni continue to face ongoing water difficulties.

This has been confirmed by the Water Authority of Fiji as the only water source in Taveuni North-the Mua Intake has been impacted by the ongoing dry spell.

The Mua Intake has not been at full operational capacity and insufficient to meet current demand for the past two months.

It supplies households on lower elevations only while WAF carts water to around 70 households on higher levels that the reduced Mua Intake cannot supply.

One of the three desalination plants damaged by T.C. Winston in the South has been repaired and supplying metered households on lower levels.

However WAF continues to cart water to more than 1,000 people living in metered and non-metered households on higher elevations.

Meanwhile, Pumps at the lower stream of Navau creek in Labasa have been fixed by the Water Authority of Fiji.

This is the additional raw water supply to the two main water sources at Navau Spring and Nasealevu which supply water for most of Labasa.
