The island of Taveuni, which was severely affected by TC Winston on Saturday is in dire need of assistance.

The Divisional Emergency Operations Center (DEOC) in Labasa has requested the National Emergency Operation Center in Suva for a barge to be based in the North.

This barge is to cater for the Northern Maritime Islands and inaccessible areas such as Taveuni South.

It will also be needed for the cartage of water, and food and relief supplies.

The DEOC in Labasa has also requested for 500 tents as immediate response to the needs to communities in Taveuni as well as 500 cartons of Fiji Water.

There is also an urgent need to supply food ration to evacuation centres in Taveuni.

The DEOC in Labasa has deployed re-reinforcements to Taveuni to help authorities there conduct damage assessments.
