Taveuni dalo farmers get help

The Australian Government has pitched in to help the farmers of Taveuni to improve their soil fertility.

More than 3,600 farmers involved in dalo export are now seeing a decline in yields and a reduction in the size of dalo due to the impact of declining soil fertility.

To overcome this problem farmers on the island have formed Tei-tei Taveuni, an association to advocate and promote improved farming techniques.

Now this group is getting assistance from the Ministry of Primary Industries and the Australian Government.

$490,000 has been given under the Australian Aid Program.

A research is being carried out to address the problem.
