Taveuni dalo farmers get help
September 15, 2012 8:00 pm
The Australian Government has pitched in to help the farmers of Taveuni to improve their soil fertility.
More than 3,600 farmers involved in dalo export are now seeing a decline in yields and a reduction in the size of dalo due to the impact of declining soil fertility.
To overcome this problem farmers on the island have formed Tei-tei Taveuni, an association to advocate and promote improved farming techniques.
Now this group is getting assistance from the Ministry of Primary Industries and the Australian Government.
$490,000 has been given under the Australian Aid Program.
A research is being carried out to address the problem.
