Task group to work on licensing of construction companies

September 22, 2018 4:35 am

The Construction Industry Council has put together a task group to work on the licensing of all construction companies in the country.

Council Chief Executive, Vijay Naidu says this is one of the major focus of the Council as they work to ensure all companies are compliant before they are given the green light to undertake construction works.

“In overseas countries, there is an act of parliament that regulates the licensing of people working within the industry. In Fiji we don’t have such law or regulation for the construction industry, we don’t have an act of parliament saying that the builders should be licensed or the plumbers should be licensed. So we need to get that going.”

Naidu says the task group under the licensing of companies will ensure that all builders are Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and Fiji National Provident Fund compliant and they must have a good reputation and workmanship.

Meanwhile, more than 200 construction companies are current members of the Council.
