Cleanup campaign on Nabukalou creek

February 24, 2021 4:20 pm

An organization called Suva Suppers has taken it upon themselves to clean up several creeks and rivers around the capital city.

Their first project in line is to clean up the Nabukalou creek situated in the heart of Suva City.

Suva Stand-Up Paddler representative, Roderick Lal says an increased amount of rubbish in waterways encouraged them to organize a cleanup campaign together with other organizations.

“We were cleaning at the maritime centre and then we did a stand up paddling where interested parties like kids could bring their parents and come and learn about the sport and the next month we thought of Nabukolou creek as its part of our heritage and it’s also a national site for everyone over here.”

Lal says pollution in the iconic creek in the capital city over the years is an eyesore.

He says the cleanup is scheduled for this Saturday and people are encouraged to apply as volunteers as this will be the first of many cleanup campaigns that will be conducted this year.
