Suva lawyer charged with alleged drug possession

A Suva lawyer has been charged with one count of being in possession of illicit drugs following a raid in a hotel room in Suva last week.

The lawyer was found with white substances and dried leaves which were later tested positive as methamphetamine and marijuana.

He will be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Meanwhile, two men are in custody at the Totogo Police Station after they were found with substances believed to be drugs over the weekend.

The first suspect, a 64-year-old man from Lami was arrested by a team of officers on beat patrol near the Suva Library Carpark on Saturday night.

A search conducted resulted in the seizure of two small clear bags of white crystal believed to be methamphetamine with a syringe.

The second suspect, a 31-year-old gardener of New Town in Nasinu was also arrested by the same beat patrol team after he was found with 13 bullets of dried leaves inside a peanut butter container believed to be marijuana.

The seized substances have been sent for analysis as investigations continue.

In a separate incident, three men and a juvenile will be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court charged with allegedly robbing three men at a shop in Samabula last Tuesday.

The three men aged 20, 33, 19 years and a 17-year-old juvenile are alleged to have been armed, entered the shop and threatened the 30-year-old cashier, a shop assistant and a 22-year old student before taking off with the cash register, recharge cards, and personal items.

Investigators managed to the stolen items estimated to cost close to $2,000 from the suspects.
