A forty year old man appeared in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court today for allegedly attempting to steal the ashes of the late Simran Singh.
Vijay Prasad allegedly snuck into the Rakiraki Lalmitti Cemetary on Sunday evening after Simran had been cremated at tried to make off with ashes and bones from the funeral pyre.
He’s been charged with one count of common nuisance and one count of criminal trespass.
Police prosecutor Nilesh Kumar objected to bail saying it’s for Prasad’s own safety and because of the huge public interest surrounding the case.
He’s been remanded at the Natabua Corrections Centre until the 30th of September.
