The Health Ministry will carry out a survey on the status of obesity in the country next year.
Minister for Health Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete says Fiji is among other Pacific Island countries where obesity is becoming a serious concern.
The last survey was done in 2011 where 32.1% of Fijian adults were classified as obese.
Information gathered recorded an 8.5 percent increase in case of obesity compared to a survey done in 2002.
The research also reveals that while there are many causes of obesity in Fiji, the common ones were noted as family history, diet, lack of exercise, illness, and medications.
