“He’s a deserving person, he has served his country well and I think he is a great choice.”

NFP leader Biman Prasad also offered up his well wishes to the president on being elected but added it was a missed opportunity for government.

“Unfortunately the government has again missed a very important opportunity of bipartisanship, dialogue and consensus. The President’s position is a very uniting position for the country and it’s a pity that Parliament had to vote.”

Present in parliament this morning was Businessman Div Damodar who said he feels it was a good thing that Konrote was elected as President.

Outgoing President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau’s term ends this month.
