Supermarket adopt new operation model

October 12, 2017 4:40 am

Supermarkets have been able to provide Fijians with good shopping deals by changing their model of operation.

Fiji Competition and Consumer Council, chief executive, Joel Abraham, says supermarkets have adopted the high volume model.

“Instead of selling less items and charging more or making more profits on one particular item. What the high volume model does is it encourages any particular retailer/ trader to sell more and reduce the margin but because you are selling more you are making more money because – the more you sell the more you are getting.”

Abraham says supermarkets advertisement and sale values have increased drastically over the last few months.

He adds Max Val-U had set the tone for the supermarket competition.
