The sunken vessel MV Southern Phoenix has been refloated this afternoon but is still partially submerged.

The Maritime Safety Authority says more work needs to be done before any further movement of the vessel is carried out.

Chief Executive Captain Philip Hill says for now the salvage company will attend to other issues before the vessel is moved to a holding area.

“Other issues regarding to the refloating of the vessel cause the refloating needs the pumping in of air so they have to look for any other leaks in the air and all those needs to be sealed and see if the vessel is stabilized and it can be moved.”

Captain Hill says the towing of the vessel to its scuttling position will depend on the weather.
