Sugar surrives TC Evan

Not much damages has been done to the sugar industry by Cyclone Evans says Permanent Secretary for Sugar Manasa Vaniqi.

Vaniqi says while assessment of cyclone affected areas is still continuing, the Ministry is aware there is not much damages.

He says most of the cane had been harvested as the cyclone hit just as the crushing season is coming to an end.

He says they have gathered that only in some farms, newly planted cane have been affected but there is enough recovery time before the next crushing season.

Vaniqi adds the cyclone will not greatly affected our sugar production
