Sugar industry will continue

The Fiji Sugar Corporation assures all cane farmers that the sugar industry in Fiji will continue even after September 2017.

Corporation Executive Chair Abdul Khan told FBC News the only difference is following Sep 2017 the European Union will abolish the quota system that is currently in place – guaranteeing Fiji has preferntial price advantages in the EU.

Khan says this does not mean the end of the sugar industry; rather that overseas sugar markets will just become more challenging.

He adds the FSC, with the help of the Bainimarama Government, has already secured four new markets to sell raw sugar.
