August 16, 2018 4:48 am

Crushing capacity at the Rarawai Sugar Mill in Ba has doubled – increasing from one thousand five hundred tonnes to three thousand tonnes daily.

Fiji Sugar Corporation chief operating officer, Navin Chandra says this is a good sign and they anticipate better cane supply throughout the crushing season.

Chandra says flooding earlier this year has not affected the mills performance.

He says FSC is also diverting some cane supplied to Rarawai to be crushed at the Lautoka Mill.

“We are diverting ninety trucks daily from Rarawai and Penang areas to Lautoka to allow Lautoka to run better and reduce the que at Rarawai which needs to be taken into account as well.”

Chandra says the Lautoka Mill has been performing well crushing five thousand tonnes daily.

He says the mills had minor teething problems initially but this has been resolved.
